Yesterday was a truly sad day for the world! One of the greatest, most iconic beauties in the business, Elizabeth Taylor passed away.
We will always love this icon and today, we pay tribute to one of the most glamorous women of our time.
We’ll show you, step by step, how to create modern day Cleopatra Eyes, a perfect way for you to remember the great Elizabeth Taylor and keep her look alive.
Step 1
Using a light coloured eye shadow (we love Bobbi Brown Shimmer Wash Eye Shadow in Bone) cover the entire eyelid, from the lash line, all the way up to your brow bone.
TIP: apply using the MAC 217 Blending Brush
Step 2
Add colour to the outer corners of your lids with something striking and sexy. We love Estee Lauder Double Wear Cream Shadow in Antique Gold. Pat the colour on using your fingertips, focusing on applying most of the colour to the outer corners and blend inwards. For more intense colour, build it up in layers until you have your desired result.
TIP: apply using your fingertips for best results
Step 3
Add definition to your lids using a shade that has gorgeous shimmer to create stunning contours. We love MAC Pigment Pot in Melon. Dust it over your lid, starting from the inner corner and going upwards towards the brow bone – leaving the outer corners untouched, and brush backwards and blend.
TIP: apply using the MAC 222 Tapered Brush or the MAC 224 Tapered Blending Brush.
Step 4
Awaken your eyes by brightening up the lower lash line. We love Benefit Mr Frosty for eye popping eyes that are wide awake.
Step 5
Now for the fun and true Cleopatra signature! The liquid liner! Apply liquid liner firstly to your lower lids. We love Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner. Apply just under your water line and as close to the lash line as possible.
TIP: Smudge it out to create a sultry look using a cotton bud or the MAC 219 Pencil Brush.
Step 6
Next apply a thick layer of liquid liner to the upper lash line, again as close to the lash line as possible. Start on the outer corner and go inwards with the shape of your eye, so that you can avoid making any mistakes. Be precise and take your time, this is the most important step.
Step 7
Create the classic Cleopatra wing. Once you’ve perfected everything up to this step it’s time to give your liner wings. Using an eyeliner brush and starting at outer corner of your eye lids, draw a wing, flicking upwards with your liner. Apply a second coat to darken it and join it with your bottom liner. You may need to apply another coat of liner to add intensity.
TIP: Use the MAC 209 Liner Brush, or the Bobbi Brown Ultrafine Eyeliner Brush.
STEP 6
Finish off your look with two (or three) coats of a lengthening, thickening mascara. We love L’Oreal Volume Million Lashes Mascara.
FINISHING TOUCHES
- SKIN: Start off with clean, clear skin. For the foundation we recommend; Chanel Vita Lumiere Aqua, Estee Lauder Double Wear or MAC Pro long Wear Foundation.
- CHEEKS: Add contour using golden bronzers. We absolutely love the new Golden Lariat Mineralize Skin Finish from the MAC Wonder Woman collection.
- LIPS: Compliment this bold eye with a soft lip. Nudes are all the rage, or go for Coral to add an element of wow! We love Chanel Rouge Allure glosses in Imaginare (a soft, silky pink) and Gene (a gorgeous coral).Big girls need big diamonds.
And as Elizabeth would say “Big girls, need big diamonds”. Good bye Dame Taylor – 27 February 1932 – 23 March 2011
