Star Review – Get Glossed

Keep lips plum, fresh and fabulous with a fresh slick of lip gloss this summer.  There are literally hundreds, if not thousands of glosses on the market and range from a few rands, to a few hundred.  I was given the opportunity to try some glosses from Yardley, Revlon, Almay, Benefit, Rimmel and Charlie and here’s what I have to say in my first “Star Review”.

1) Shock Gloss – “Blown up” by Rimmel is branded as the “3D Magnifying LipGloss.  It has a very unusual and effective applicator.  Instead of the usual sponge wand or roller ball, this gloss comes with a spatula wand.  This technology allows you to really gloss up those lips without messing.  I also really like the subtle specks of glitter – a must have party girl item, for sure!.  It also has a nice, fresh, fruity smell.

2) Pout Plumper by Yardley is branded as the gloss with an instant plumping effect.  Now I know you’re all asking – well, does it work? The answer is yes! But don’t expect to go from slither lips to Jolie overnight.  Although the gloss makes your lips appear fuller it doesn’t physically make them bigger – so don’t expect surgical miracles.  I’m also not sure what it is about this one, but I just want to purse my pout and kiss. It has a soothing, tingling feeling when applied and while the shine does die down after a few cups of coffee, your lips continue to feel conditioned and smooth for hours after.

3) PocketPal by Benefit is one of those great multi-purpose products for girls on the go.  It’s a double sided applicator that contains the magical Benetint lip stain on the one side and gloss on the other.  I reviewed this product in one of my Fab Find Friday’s and really love, love, love it.  The gloss is nothing new and unusual, but the Benetint is magic stuff. You have to try it – see for yourself.

4) Beyond Juicy by Yardley is a treatment gloss that provides a delicious slick to your lips, while it conditions and shines. It’s the perfect gloss for a simple day look and a definite must-have beach bag item for summer.  It comes in a variety of “flavours” and I’ve tried out the “Crystal Clear”, “Peach Parfait” and “Sugar Coat”.  They are all fabulous, although I prefer the flavoured ones as apposed to the crystal clear as they make your lips smell deliciously kissable.

5) Ideal Lipgloss by Almay – Gives your lips a slight tinge of pink colour with a slick of gloss.  The nice thing about 320 – Pink Shimmer, is that enhances your lips natural colour, so its perfect for an el’ natural look.    I also got to try the 325 Clear Shimmer which is simple, but I love the minty, fresh smell.

6) Colourstay Mineral Lipglaze by Revlon – has a very different smell to your normal glosses.  Usually, you’ll find glosses to have fruity and flirty flavours.  This one however, has more of a coco-nutty smell and makes me think of sipping cocktails out of coconut cups in Mauritius or Hawaii.  Similar to the Almay one, this one provides a natural tinge of colour to your lips and finishes it off with a kissable seal.  I tried 515 in Everlasting Blush, but I believe there are about 12 different shades you can play with.

7) LipGloss by Charlie – is packed with vitamin E and has a gorgeous, fruity, cherry-flavoured aroma.  The gloss is non-greasy and conditions your lips rather nicely.  Nice and simple, yet effective.

8) Sweet Jelly by Rimmel in “Yummy” is very yummy indeed.  It smells and tastes absolutely delicious.  Although it goes on really nicely and provides a cute, natural gloss, I love the taste, so therefore, for me it doesn’t stay on very long.  I would call it the prefect sweet tooth indulgence 🙂

9) Lots ‘o Lips by Charlie reminds me of the real deal, old school lip gloss – you know those ones with the roller ball you (well I did) had back in your primary school days?  Accept for one thing, these ones actually work – obviously the technology has improved since then and you don’t have to bit the ball out to get some gloss.  These come in cool flavours and I got to try out the Fruity Pops and Strawberry Twist flavours that smell yummy

10) Vinyl Gloss by Rimmel claims to give you “mirror shine”.  While I don’t know about mirror, this one is definitely very, very glossy, but the Shock Gloss is definitely glossier.

And while we’re talking Glosses, be sure to check out Benefit’s lip gloss set – Peace, Love & Glossiness.  This set is just in time for Christmas and makes a fabulous gift for all your gal pals.  The set comes beautifully displayed in a branded gift box and contains three tubes with two complementing shades of each – so you get six different way ways to shine those pouts!
