It’s been a smouldering hot summer, but before we head on into Autumn, I wanted to share some of my favourite summer scents that I’ve been rotating throughout this gorgeous season.
When the heat rises, I tend to gravitate towards fresh, bright, softer and more delicate scents. I’m not a fan of sickly sweet-floral or candy scents, but I do love the smell of freshly cut flowers or scents that remind me of summer gardens.
YSL Black Opium
One of my most worn scents this summer, especially for night, has got to be YSL Black Opium. This scent is soooo gorgeous and addictive! I guess the coffee bean note gives me an instant mind boost. I also love how it develops into a mix of jasmine and light vanilla before settling into woody and patchouli notes.
HUGO BOSS MA VIE
For day, I like to wear HUGO BOSS MA VIE. This scent is beautifully packaged in a gorgeous pastel pink bottle and is all about playfulness with a powerful dash of sexy. It opens with an invograting fresh note of Cactus Blossom, combined with notes of Suave Pink Freesia, Jasmine Petals and Delicate Rose Bud.
L’Occitane Fleurs de Cerisier
A new-ish fragrance that I’ve been wearing a lot lately is the new L’Occitane Fleurs de Cerisier L’Eau. When I featured the collection on StyleScoop earlier this month, I described the entire range like Springtime in the South of France. The EDT is fresh and fruity with vibrant notes that are reminiscent of a spring garden. Floral, yes, but that garden-fresh floral that I like.
GUCCI FLORA 1966
My favourite scent for Summer 2014/15 is without a doubt GUCCI Flora 1966. Again, it’s a floral scent, but a fresh and fragrant one rather than a sweet/candy type. With notes of bergamot and dark bourbon pepper, this fragrance is the epitome of class. It’s laced with peony petals and voluptous rose, and finished on base notes of patchouli fused with vetiver and seductive musks.
Giorgio Armani SI
I got this fragrance the other day, and while it only launches next month in March, I wanted to add it to my Best Summer Fragrances list because it’s a winner!
It’s a gloriously delicate scent that’s soft and feminine with an unexpected blackcurrant sorbet and pear accord that leaves a revitalizing and energizing trail of musk.
It has a soft side, with an irresistible depth that leaves you smelling like an angel.
Burberry, MY BURBERRY
Another beautiful scent, that I’ll probably be wearing well into Autumn, and possibly even winter. When I reviewed My Burberry, I described it like London in the Rain. It’s a crisp and dewy scent that opens with top notes of sweet pea and bergamot, that’s fused with geranium, golden quince and freesia. The base is comprised of notes of damask, centifolia roses and patchouli.
Chanel CHANCE Eau Tendre Powdered Perfume
This one isn’t quite a spray fragrance like the others, but on those really hot and sticky days, I’ve been wearing Chanel Chance Eau Tendre Shimmering Powdered Perfume because it’s delicate and I love the elegant sparkles that make your skin look amaze!
It’s a soft, feminine and powdery scent that always reminds me of my holiday in Greece.
Lanvin ME
Okay, so I said I didn’t like “candy” scents, but LANVIN ME is a total exception, because it’s not your typical sweet candy, but still has that candy personality, if you know what I mean?
It’s a fun, feminine, playful and very girly scent that makes you want to put on a big (stylish) tutu and twirl around the room. It’s energetic with top notes of mandarin and blueberry that wear off to reveal a heart of liquorice, tuberose and rose absolu, before settling into base notes of sandal wood and black wood.
Totally yummy, zesty, energetic and simplistic all rolled into one.
Jour d’Hermès
When I want to feel expensive, luxurious and classy, I love Jour d’Hermès. This scent is a fruity with hints of floral and woody notes. It radiates with top notes of lemon and grapefruit before revealing a heart of white flowers and finishes on musky, woody base notes.
It’s a sparkling scent that has a bit of bitter bite – but the bitterness is well complimented with the other notes that give it that signature Hermès expensive, classy and very wearable personality.
What has been you most worn summer scent this season?
