I’ve been meaning to do an updated closet room tour since moving to our new home, and also because my closet room is always a hot topic and one that is highly requested by my lovely readers on StyleScoop.
We’ve been in Jozi for two years now, so it’s about dang time!
This weekend, after giving my vanity table a fresh coat of paint, I thought now is the perfect time to invite you into a little visual tour of my second JHB Closet. The first one was just okay. I had set it up in the spare bedroom (benefits of not having kids haha), but I didn’t love it. It was dark and the walls were a bland and boring yellow paint (which we couldn’t re-fresh), but this one, man oh man, it’s perfect. Bright white walls, high beam exposed ceilings and so much friggin natural light!
The set up is very similar to my previous one from our Durban home, it’s just bigger and a lot better. I used most of the fittings from my old setup from the very first closet room, and since I have more space in this room, I could add an extra book shelf slash shoe shelf so I have more of my shoes on display rather than shoved in the cupboard.
My new closet room is a lot bigger than my Durban one, and it is even better because I have my own girly en suite bathroom, so I don’t have to venture too far to get ready in the mornings. YAY! It’s also nice to have a completely solo bathroom where I can keep all my beauty goodies without having them all over the guest bathroom.

The only thing with my current closet room (and I’m not being bratty and complaining – lol), is that the centre seems very bare. When I have some extra cash, I want to invest in a beautiful, round ottoman for the centre and a lovely carpet to cozy it up, but for now the empty space will have to do.
So, without further or due, welcome to le StyleScoop closet Version 3! Well, technically this one would be version 4, since I transformed one of the spare bedrooms in our first JHB house into a closet, but it was very boring so I didn’t bother taking any pics of it – haha!
If you’d like to see the transformation of my closet rooms across the years, here’s the very first one from 2011. And then, here is how I transformed the same space in 2014 to make it less cluttered.
I still get asked all the time about my clothing rails. I purchased mine at least 5 years ago from Mr Price Home. Sadly, I have been looking out for them, but to my knowledge, they haven’t had them again. I found this local place online that have the same chrome wire shelves, but I haven’t seen the clothing rail attachment. It’s worth asking though as these shaves have been so versatile.
I had set up four chrome shelving systems in Durban, because the built in closet I had in that room was tiny. This new space has two built in’s so I don’t need the fourth clothing rail in here. For that reason, I was able to double the hanging rail in one of the racks and use the space to hang my shorts and skirts and the bottom. The extra racking unit is being utilized in my en-suite bathroom and and is working brilliantly as a beauty storage unit with he smaller shelves that I’ve combined from all four units.
To give you a nice overview of how my room is set up, I shot these two pano images on my iPhone, so you can get a realistic feel for my little piece of heaven…
As you walk in, I have my three chrome ‘wardrobes’ against the left wall. I store dresses in the first one. The second one is for shirts and outerwear and below them I have baskets where I store my flat sandals and randoms with my clutch purses on one shelf, and the bottom two drawers (which came from my vanity/ or rather my husbands desk when he was a kiddo), I use to store my swimsuits. The last chrome rail has all my blouses and tops on the first rail and underneath, I hang all my shorts and short skirt on the hanging rail which came from my “extra” shelving unit (the one that’s moved to the bathroom).
On the wall facing the doorway, I have my vanity, my accessories cupboard and my little dolly (who wears all my belts and statement accessories) and on the right wall is where I have my two shoe shelves before the entrance to my bathroom.
At the back I have my double built in’s, which give me that extra space for more clothes.
The smaller double door one is where I keep all my jackets and coats nicely lined up. Hanging on the side of the cupboard, I used my neat hat trick DIY to display and store my hats..
Then, in the double-double door closet I keep everything else. The first one is all folding space, so I keep my sweaters and jerseys in here, gym clothes, leggings, t-shirts, hoodies and all that jazz. In the next one I have double rails of just hanging space, so here is where I store my jeans and trousers (hanging up). I have a lot (a lot, a lot) of jeans so yes, I do need a whole cupboard just for jeans okay!.
I’m so in love with this space! Of all the closet transformations, this one is by far my favourite!
