Glam rock is a fun, sexy way to wear your makeup. Glam up the eyes and leave the lips nude for the day and then transform into a sexy siren by adding a pop of bright colour to your lips. Lady Gaga has nailed glam-rock to perfection, with nude lips and diva eyes, but Christina Aguilera rocks it with clean, porcelin skin, dramatic eyes and intense lips.
It’s easy to create the glam rock look when you have the right products. I’ve been playing with a few brands this past week, testing them out, trying on new looks and really having fun with the whole glam-rock look, to bring you this week’s beauty feature…
- Rimmel London Glam Eyes Professional Liquid Liner in Aqua Glow is great for applying precision liner to your lids and the colour is simply stunning. I really like doing the whole “carbon copy” eye with a black gel liner (see 7) and then adding a stoke of colour with this product to the outer corners. The easy to use applicator makes it simple to use. I also like applying just a bit of this color to the ends of my lashes lashes after applying mascara and letting it dry.
- Do it “Christina style” with Estee Lauder Signature Lipstick in Brilliant Pink. It adds a really intense colour to brighten up your lips. If you’re brave, rock this look during the day or make a statement at night. Either way it’s a hot, hot, hot pink colour that makes you look (and feel) hot, hot, hot.
- How cute is this mono shadow from Rimmel London? After you get over the initial “I don’t want to ruin the look of it” stage, this product is perfect for creating black shaded eye lids for party nights. Sadly, the silver crown doesn’t last very long and I’m guessing its just for show, but the product itself is great. The colour blends easily and the tiny hint of silver sparkles is oh-so glam.
- If you prefer to stick to pencil applicators, this black one from Revlon Colorstay is great. Its pretty and solid black from the first application, but you can intensify it by colouring over the line two more times. Oh, and smudger at the back is pretty cool if you want to smoke out your lower eye area.
- If you’re all for the glam factor but want to add an edge to basic black on the eyes, try Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay-in-Place shadow cream in Blue Velvet. It really does stay in place and looks uber hot. Be sure to remove it with eye-makeup remover though, because it doesn’t come off as easily as you’d think with it being a cream shadow.
- Glam your nails with Revlon Midnight Affair nail enamel, its brilliant colour will have people staring at your fingers, and it looks so hot with chunky cocktail rings.
- When you do carbon copy eyes the last thing you want is your eyes smudged before you leave the door. This amazing gel liner from Bobbi Brown is a must have product and definitely one of my top products of the year. Using the correct applicator brush (which you can get from Bobbi Brown as well as most cosmetic houses) you can get the look with ease and the pleasure of knowing your eyes look super hot all night long. What I really like about this product is its staying on power and you don’t get those horrible residue lines on your upper lids, which often occur when you apply a solid line of colour to the lash line.
- Loreal Paris has a liquid liner called Super Liner Carbon Gloss and it’s gorgeous for creating carbon copy eyes, Angelina-style. It’s solid black and has a flexible tip that allows you to glide the liner across you lash line.
- Estee Lauder Automatic Eye Pencil duo is another great pencil line product that is long lasting and fabulous. I love the smudger on this one and its great to use to smoke out my lower lids. Plus the really great thing about this product is that it comes with an extra refill, so when you run out you have a back up plan on hand. The refill comes in a compact little case, which is great if you’re travelling and want to take lots of shades with you, because you can pack each refill container instead of taking along every applicator – Genius!
- Rimmel London Glam Eyes Professional Liquid Liner in Brown Velvet is a nice, day colour you could use for intense eyes. It’s the same technology as the first one mentioned, but in a totally different shade.
- Use Yardley Lash Advance Volume Mascara to finish the lashes and wing them out at the ends. This mascara has a silicone applicator brush that has tiny, comb -like bristles that cover each lash for dramatic colour.
- Black nails are still in and still very hot (yay), glam them up with Black Cab lasting nail finish from Rimmel London, which is my favourite black nail varnish and it’s under fifty bucks!
- Rimmel London Glam Eyes Lash Flirt mascara also has a nice, flexible brush to help you get to all the lashes and cover them in mascara. After all what’s glam-rock without sexy siren lashes?
PS: I got to try all of these products and while they are all great (I wouldn’t mention them if they weren’t), I still think that most people prefer a way of applying liner that is comfortable to them. I have always been a pencil girl, until I discovered Bobbi Brown Liquid Gel liner that changed me forever! I still use pencils, but for the carbon effect I definitely recommend using a gel liner. The liquid liners are also very cool, but I just find that applying liner with a brush is far easier for me than with an applicator. Go out, explore and enjoy and find a carbon copy method that suits you!
