Electric Summer Vibes with YSL Vinyl Cream Lips

!!! This entry is older than two years. The information may be outdated. >>>

I have a lyric playing in my mind, and it goes a little something like this… “We gonna rock down to electric avenue…. and then we’ll take it higher….”

That’s exactly how these new Vinyl Cream Lipsticks from YSL have me feeling! They are, dare I say it, my FAVOURITE LIPPIES OF THE MOMENT! And today I’ll tell you all about them and what makes these lipsticks soar to the top of my hit list. Plus I’ve swatched three gorgeous shades from the range, so that you can see them in action…

But first, let me tell you a bit more about the new YSL VINYL CREAM collection.

The range offers a playlist of 12 bright summer shades for all! In the mix are racey rouge’s, hot pinks, electro corals and classic nudes. A tracklist of shades to see you through the summer and beyond! They are bright, they are bold, they are deliciously creamy and they offer a long lasting, comfortable vinyl shine.

Move over liquid lips, VINYL LIPS are taking over!

As much as I like liquid lipsticks, I just don’t seem to win with them. They smear all over the place, they get on my teeth and quite frankly, the amount of time I have to spend applying liquid lipsticks isn’t worth it for me. Especially, since I still have to worry every few seconds if they are smeared all over my face! So not a good look.

The YSL VINYL CREAM lipsticks go on like magic. They look incredible and they last for ages! I don’t have to worry about them going all over the place, since the formula stays put, but it’s the fact they last all day and look good for pretty much, the whole day, that has me head over heels in love!

I don’t know if it’s the pointy, avant-garde inspired applicator, which glides on your lips and gives you the control you need to sculpt, or the unique blend of two formulations with distinctive benefits that pack on the product and keep it locked in all day;

The first application works as a lip care base, which contains skincare-like ceramide structures to care for the lips

The second application works as an overcoat, and mixes with highly concentrated pigments that wrap lips in bright, pure and lasting colour

They smooth lips, hydrate them to the max while leaving a creamy, comfortable finish that lasts and lasts and lasts!

I can’t speak for all the shades in terms of lasting power, but the three which I sampled all left me with bold, beautiful lips that lasted the whole day. They eventually do wear down, especially if you eat, drink or yack all day, but even when the glossiness goes down, the punchy colour remains, so your lips look perky even if you don’t re-apply. Just remember to follow the two coat application and allow some drying time in between for maximum benefits.

On me, they last about 8 hours which is hella impressive! At first the colour is glossy and creamy but not sticky and very comfortable to wear. I give them about an hour to dry completely and then it’s colour on repeat all day! I can yack, eat, drink and just be merry and my lip colour stays put. There isn’t any residue and my lips don’t flake or dry up.

You need to check them out!

Here’s a round up of the 3 shades I sampled and my thoughts…

In my featured pic and and here I’m wearing N° 408 Corail Neo-Pop which is a beautiful, perfect-for-sun-kissed-skin coral. It’s bright and bold, and one of the most flattering corals I’ve ever tried. It’s not too red, or too orange and overall, a great shade to give your lips a punch of juiciness.

This shade pops with bronzed, summer skin and looks beautiful contrasted with blue nail polish, gold accessories and denim pieces. I think it would look great with a distressed denim look and simple black, winged eyeliner.

Without a doubt, my favourite colour is N° 405 Explicit Pink! This colour is the perkiest, prettiest, most beautiful pink ever! Here, I’m wearing 2 layers of the product, but what I love about it, is the more layers I load on, the more electric it becomes!

I love how this shade contrasts with my ombre hair and it really does all the talking! While I love wearing it with simple eyes, I still LOVE the look I did in my September Favourite’s video, where I paired hot pink lips with a smokey orange bronzed eye.

Then for lovers of red, if ever there was the most perfect shade of red, it would be N° 411 Rhythm Red! I’m not a big red-lip wearer, I just don’t think red lips look good on me, but this one I’ve become addicted to! It’s bright, it’s glossy and it has so much life and punchiness, it’s hard to resist.

If you’re a red girl, you will want to add it to your collection. If you’re still searching for the perfect red, then you definitely want to check this one out! It’s a solid, scarlet red that will become your new favourite red!

I’m dying to try out some of the more “everyday” shades like N° 412 Rose Mix – a rebellious last dance for lips that’s very much like an enhanced colour depth of a natural lip and N° 404 Nude Pulse which is a naked peach tone that I think will look amazing on me when I’m a little more tanned.

The YSL VINYL CREAM lipsticks are exclusive to the YSL BEAUTE BOUTIQUE (at Sandton City) and they retail for R520 each. A little pricey, yes, but certainly with the splurge considering they are everything you could want and more from a lipstick!
