It’s not often that I post a whole lot of guy grooming content here on StyleScoop, but every now and then I like to showcase some of the new fragrances out there, that your man will love. After all, you need to justify all your fragrance and makeup spoils by treating your man to something new every now and then, right?
There have been a couple of new launches that have happened in mens fragrances over the past couple of months, and I’ve been saving them to bring you a feature of all of them together.
So lets, get into it shall we? Staring with…
New: Spicy and Seductive Scents for Him…
Spicy, seductive, rich and aromatic scents are usually my poison when it comes to mens fragrances. I like a man to smell powerful, and I since I’m a perfume fanatic, to me there is nothing sexier than a man with a strong aroma.
Just so we’re clear though, when I say a strong aroma I don’t mean perfume overkill – I mean powerful, aromas that come from the fragrance, and not caused from spraying the entire bottle of cologne on himself.
BOSS, The Scent Intense
Hugo Boss has always been on of my favourite fragrances for men. I guess it’s likely because my hubby wore Hugo Boss (Dark Blue) when we started dating, so it always reminds me of him, and our young love…
All the Hugo Boss Scents that followed Dark Blue have always been a hit with the hubby (and me for that matter). And the newly launched, BOSS The Scent Intense is no exception.
This time, a richer, more intense version of the original The Scent which was launched a few years back.
BOSS The Scent Intense opens with top notes of Ginger and Cardamom. In the heart lies a note called Manika – which if you do a search on Fragrantica (the encyclopaedia of fragrance), you’ll see this note is present only in BOSS The Scent and BOSS The Scent Intense colognes – as well as Lavendar. The base notes consist of Leather and Vanilla coupled with Woody Notes.
All in all, everything in the olfactory pyramid of The Scent Intense is perfection for me!
I recently came to realise that the cardamom note in mens colognes is the note that always sweeps me off my feet! So yeah, I love The Scent Intense from the very first smell. Ya know, one of those follow me around like a lost puppy, taking in my trail of aroma kinda mens fragrances.
It’s a rich, sexy, seductive scent that is all man, all sexy and all indulgent!

Dunhill, Icon Racing
Dunhill is another high end brand that’s a serious contender when it comes to iconic mens fragrances.
Loved by the likes of David Beckham, Luke Evans, Sam Smith and Stanley Tucci, it’s a serious gentlemen’s cologne, and one that oozes class and sophistication for the accomplished, dapper and dashing man of today.
For the brands’ latest ICON release, Dunhill ICON Racing, the bottle stays true to the spirit of the brand; with British Racing Green dominating the packaging. Why green you ask? Well it’s one of the most iconic colours in the automotive world, dating back 100 years in history.
Dunhill Icon Racing opens with notes of Bergamot, Grapefruit and Cardamom (do you think I love it? or do you think I love it?), with middle notes of Orange Flower, Lavender and Fresh Pepper. In the Base; Guaiac Woods, Vetiver and Musk complete this fragrance.
In a nutshell, it’s a dynamic scent with an element of “fresh” that compliments the Dunhill man’s fragrance collection. This time, with a version of his favourite scent, that speaks to his boyish side and love for cars and all things speed!
This one is hitting South Africa on the 1st November 2017, so be on the look out for it!

Mont Blanc, Legend Night
Extending the Mont Blanc Legend line up is the newly launched Mont Blanc Legend Night fragrance for him.
A fragrance that contrasts the light and shadows, to bring out the mystery and elegance of the Legend Night Man.
The bottle design has been inspired by a precious liquor, and the scent opens with citrusy Bergamot, coupled with notes of Clary Sage, Mint and Cardamom. In the heart; Cedar, Lavender, Violet, Apple and Fir Resin add to it’s complexity, while woody base notes of Akigalawood coupled with Vetiver, Black Vanilla Husk and Musk complete this fragrance.
It’s a strong and memorable scent (yep, there’s that cardamom note in the top notes, oh la la) and mixes up nicely with the fresh and lively notes to make it a great intense scent for the summer, but not overly rich and spicy.
Price: R1 295 for 100ml EDP, R995 for 50ml EDP and R654 for 30ml EDP.
New: Fresh Scents for Him…
If you prefer fresh, less spicy and more icy scents for your man, then you’ll love these two new fragrance launches that fit perfectly into this category.
Armani Code, Colonia
For the man who knows exactly how to wear his clothes with a discreet, casual ease, giving him a certain allure and seductive power. This is the Armani Code Colonia man, and he wears a fragrance that blends the light and deep notes into a simplistic composition.
Armani Code Colonia opens with top notes of Bergamot, Mandarin Orange and Pink Pepper. In the heart lies Orange Blossom, Clary Sage and Amyl Salicylate, while the base combines Amberwood, Tonka Bean and Heliotrop.
It’s got that almost aquatic, fresh out of the shower personality that mixes well with the woody base notes to give it more dimension and complexity.
Personally though, while I do like Code Colonia, I must say that I preferred last year’s edition, Armani Code Profomo, which was more aromatic and more seductive. But then, again that’s just my personal preference.

Jimmy Choo Man, ICE
From Jimmy Choo Man, the enticing new Jimmy Choo MAN ICE is another fresh scent for him that opens with citrusy notes and has all the essence of a bright scent for the season.
The top notes include Mandarin, Bergamot and Cedrat Essence, while the heart comprises of Vetiver Essence, Patchouli Essence, Cedarwood and Apple. Finally, the base notes comprise of Musk, Moss and Ambroxan.
It’s a clean, crisp scent that isn’t overpowering, but will no doubt at that give him that energizing, cooling spritz that works well in the heat of summer.
Price: R1095 for 100ml EDT, R895 for 50ml EDT or R695 for 30ml EDT.
