Glam Gifts – Reads

Ahhh the end of the year has come, and it’s time to kick back and enjoy some beach-worthy, pool-side reading.

Here is my list of top reads for 2008.

1) Gods Behaving Badly by Marie Phillips is, to date, my favourite book of all time.  It’s a real breath of fresh air and unlike any book you’ve ever read before.  The story is about Greek Gods living in London in the 21st Century.  They have lost their powers, since nobody believes in them anymore, and they try to adapt to modern day living.   Artemis (goddess of hunting) is a professional dog walker.  Aphrodite (goddess of beauty) is a telephone sex operator and Apollo (god of the sun) is a TV psychic.

I would highly recommend this book, and although it is  Marie Phillips’ first book – she is an absolutely amazing story teller,  and Im already waiting in anticipation for her next masterpiece.

2) Every girls gotta have That Extra Half and Inch by style icon, Victoria Beckham – Its a book filled with 314 pages of head-to-toe fabulousity.  Mrs Beckham shares her advice on beauty, fashion and style.  It also has lots of little bits of necessary advice that make being fabulous easy. Put this book under the tree for your gal pals, mothers, daughters, sisters and cousins, – they will love you for it.

3) I’m With Stupid by Elaine Szewczyk is a funny tale about Kas, a New Yorker who meets William – A South African Stud, while on Safari in South Africa.  She flirts with this devilishly (and daft) hunk of gorgeousness, and is shocked when she discovers he’s on his way to New York to visit her.  He’s dress code and mannerisms make this book hilarious in itself.  Whatever you do, make sure this is not your only holiday read, as you  will not be able to put it down and run out of reading material in a few days, if not hours.

4) Glitz by Louise Bagshawe is a fantastic read about four beautiful and extravagant rich girls, who are rolling around in their uncles money.  Two sisters and four cousins Juno, Diana, Venus and Athena are all very different characters that make their lives interesting and intriguing.  Dressed head to toe in designer gear, the Chambers’ girls get a shock of reality when their rich old uncle Clem, announces his engagement to Bai-Ling – a stunning Asian old enough to be their baby sister.  See how the girls engage in a typical cat fight armed with good looks and socialite savvy.

5) I read Filthy Rich by Wendy Holden whilst on honeymoon in March and it was the prefect laze-by-the-pool book.  The characters in the book are unlike anyone you’ve ver met before, especially Morag – the village terror.  This book is funny and has  a blend of romance, glamour, family, money and a bit of downright craziness. It’s the perfect escape into a soap opera in black and white.

6) I am currently reading Lipstick Jungle by Candice Bushnell – The same woman who created the fabulous Carey Bradshaw and the infamous Sex and the City.  Set in New York City, this is a tale about three highly successful, money hungry and powerful women – Nico O’Neilly, Wendy Healy, and Victory Ford, numbers 8, 12, and 17 on The New York Post‘s list of “New York’s 50 Most Powerful Women.”

7) I received Triple XXX Tonight by Anne Hooper as a Hen Party gift and I must admit it has some very interesting tips about how to be a goddess in bed.  Anne reveals some seductress secrets that will have your man begging for more.  So, why not wrap it up and put it under the three for your man?

8) For a whack of reality that’s raw and real, check out The Intimate Adventures of a London Call Girl by Belle de Jour.  Belle de Jour started blogging about her London call girl adventures and later published this book, where she reveals and elaborates on her diary entries.  It’s an interesting book that will allow you to step into her life without risking a thing.  But be warned – this book is “raw” – Belle doesn’t sugar coat anything and says it like it is.  If you want a safe way to check out the life of a call girl, this is it.
