Man oh man am I glad to be living in Durban this winter! Here on the East Coast, it may rain all summer long (and then some), but I really feel for the poor folk in Cape Town with all that rain happening there at the moment!
The one thing we can all be grateful for however, is the fact nowadays, we have stylish rain-ready footwear to keep us trendy while keeping us dry!
To be perfectly honest, I think stylish rain boots, gum boots (or what ever you want to call them) are an absolute must in any wardrobe! And you don’t have to look like a farmer or construction worker either! There are so many stylish gum boots out there!
My favourite gum boots are Hunters (of course) as well as the stylish new pairs from Crocs! I can’t decide which ones I love more, because I think both brands have such fab boots! My solution – get them both!
I own both brands and love them all the same! I bought my Hunter boots last year when we had non stop rain and was given two pairs of Crocs Rainboots when I did the Rainboot shoot for Crocs a few months back! I have the Crocs Wellie Rainboots in Forest Green, the Pomegranate Crocs Rainfloe Boots and a classic pair of simple black Hunter Original Tall Boots.
The Hunters do look “more expensive” (which they are) and more structured, but the CROCS are more fun, funky and way more comfortable! While both pairs look great, my Hunter Boots are quite heavy and uncomfortable – difficult to wear for long periods of time.
My Crocs (both pairs I own) are incredibly light and I can wear them all day long! I especially love the flexi shin shaft of the pink pair! It bends easily and I love the detail on the top!
My Crocs Wellie Rainboots (the army green pair) may look pretty basic, but they have really cute under-soles! My pair for example, has a navy blue sole, hence the “Navy” in the name “Forest Navy”. Other colours in this style have different contrasting soles – gotta love the understated detail!
As you can tell by the images below, I like wear my gum boots all the time! I love wearing them when it’s raining (duh), but they are awesome to wear to the Farmer’s Market as well!
