Yesterday, I was invited to attend the Dermalogica Congress, a lovely breakfast celebrating 25 years of Dermalogica, held at the Hilton Hotel here in Durbs. The congress featured a full morning with Dermalogica Founder Jane Wurwand.
Jane Wurwand is an amazing woman, she’s an even more amazing business person, and in her fifties, Jane has gorgeous skin! I guess Dermalogica does as it delivers. Jane, who lives in Los Angeles, and is married to a South African by the way, founded Dermalogica 25 years ago. Today, it is in over 80 countries with over 26 800 authorized dealers around the globe.
During her talk where about 300 people attended, we were told some amazing stories about the brand, the passion behind the brand (Jane), how important social media is (Jane says bloggers are important, bless her), some new product launches, but most importantly about FITE program.
FITE is a global empowerment platform powered by Kiva.org, the nonprofit leader in microfinance, that is designed to foster Financial Independence Through Entrepreneurship for women in the developing world. Our mission is to provide women entrepreneurs access to small loans that will help them start or grow a business; and to help educate the public at large about the benefits of empowering women entrepreneurs so that they “can hold up their half of the sky.”
Founded by Dermalogica, FITE aims to help at least 25 000 women, worldwide become entrepreneurs, empowering them by providing loans for their businesses. And it’s not just within the skincare trade, it’s an organization that aims to help all women entrepreneurs. Dermalogica with it’s tribe of over 100 000 successful women entrepreneurs serves as the perfect platform to reach out to thousands, if not millions of women, helping to spread the word and invest in these women as “smart economics,” which could help solve many of the problems we see in our world today.
If you’re a Dermalogica die hard, you can help contribute to FITE without spending an extra cent. How? By just logging onto the FITE website and adding your micro code, which comes with your purchase of Dermalogica products. If you’re still wondering how, I’ll show you a quick how to, step by step, so no more excuses!
When you buy your Dermalogica product/s pull down the green side where it says “pull here to activate” – so simple, and yet so many still don’t do it!
The sleeve will open up and look like the image below
Read the information inside as it contains some interesting facts about the FITE program. Pay attention to the top left, as this is where you’ll find your unique FITE code.
Log onto the website joinfite.org and click on the “Redeem” tab at the top
On the Redeem page, you will be asked to fill in a few short details. Here you insert your code and choose the type of contribution you’d like to make. For example, we chose to support women in Africa and because we love fashion, we selected ones in the weaving/ clothing industry.
Once you’vesucessful filled in the form, you get this confirmation screen, saying that $1 has been redeemed and added towards the microloans. Now $1 may seem like an insignificant number, but if you get 200 people to do this really easy task, that’s $200. 2000 women and its $2000, and well, you don’t need me to tell you the rest.
Every bit helps, so don’t be lazy! If you’ve still got your FITE sleeves on your Dermalogica packs that have not been redeemed, get cracking! That money won’t move until you activate the code!
