Talk about bath-time fit for a king (or queen)!
I love this new-to-South-Africa-range of quirky bath and body products. Not only do they smell amazing, invigorate your body and senses, but the pretty packaging is total eye candy!
Straight out of Greece, Kings & Queens includes heavenly shower gels, shimmering body milks, body butters, scented candles, EDT sprays, deodorants, soaps and body scrubs.
I love the concept of this range! It’s basically a collection of quality products, inspired by intriguing myths that surround royals and noblemen and their obsessions with herbs and spices.
Behind every variant, lies a fascinating story based on a specific royal, who lends their name to the product collection. You’ll understand what I’m on about when you keep reading :).
Signature ingredients, “Royal Herbs” throughout the Kings & Queens range include; Pomegranate, Blue Egyptian Lotus as well as Malachite extracts. The entire range is free from mineral oil and parabens.
I got to sample four products from the; Aztec King, Emperor Akbar, Sultan of Granada and King of Sumatra collections…
Aztec King
SCENT: Vanilla Pear
MYTH: Vanilla, which was considered to be a potent aphrodisiac in pre-Columbian Mexico, was consumed in bucket-loads by the ancient Aztec kings and their wives.
I got to sample the gorgeous parrafin wax candle (R99) from this range. It comes packaged in a beautiful branded tin and burns a soft, spicy, almost oriental vanilla scent. The burning time of the candles are around 40 hours – so you can get lots of enjoyment for under R100 bucks!
Anyone else thinking, awesome Christmas gift?!
Other products in the Aztec King range include: Shower Gel, Body Scrub and Roll On.
Emperor Akbar
SCENT: Mango
MYTH: This collection was inspired by 16th century Mogul Emperor Akbar, who was known for his love for mangoes. It is said that he once planted 100 000 mangoes of superior quality in the Lakh Dagh orchard.
It would appear that Emperor Akbar and I have something in common! I love mangoes probably as much as he did.
From this royal collection, I got to sample the yummy, almost good enough to eat Emperor Akbar Mango Body Butter (R109).
It is perfect for summer as it gives your skin loads of moisture, without making it feel icky and sticky and it smells pretty darn delicious too!
Other products in the Emperor Akbar range include: Shower Gel.
Sultan of Granada
SCENT: Lemon Flower
MYTH: During the reign of the Nasrid Sultans, the Spanish city of Granada was famous for its magnificent gardens. The Sultan of Granada takes its name from the city’s lemon trees which bloomed in spring, which enveloped the royal palaces in the heavenly scent of lemons.
From this range, I got to sample the Sultan of Granada Lemon Flower Showergel (R69) and it is, to date, the best smelling shower gel ever! Well, that I have tried at least!
The smell of fresh lemons is beyond amazing! I honestly don’t know how they got it right, but the lemon scent is so natural and so pure, you’d think you were surrounded by hundreds of lemon trees.
There is absolutely zero of that icky “artificial”/ plasticy smell, that I’ve experienced with a lot of shower gels, which is even more impressive for a product that costs only R69.
Other products in the Sultan of Granada Range include: Body Butter, Body Scrub and Roll On.
King of Sumatra
SCENT: Pepper Bergamot
MYTH: Sumatra is the land of legends, that saw battles between kings, colonialists and pirates! It is also the region that has the highest quality of black pepper, which was one of the most sought after spices right up until the middle ages.
From this royal range, I got to sample the King of Sumatra Soap Bar (R39). I must admit, I was hesitant to open it at first, because I just loved the illustrated packaging – inspired by vintage textiles and playing cards.
The supersize, 185 gram bar (most average soap bars are under 100 grams) leaves skin feeling clean without any feeling of tightness. And, although I could not identify the pepper aspect in the bar, it still smells really good!
Other products in the King of Sumatra Range include: Roll On and Showergel.
