Raincoats for shoes?

I was introduced this really smart little invention, thanks to one of our dedicated readers, and thought I’d share it in today’s column.

It’s so annoying when you mess up your beloved shoes by stepping in a puddle of mud or water.  And while we cant stop nature from taking it’s course – someone has thought up a way to stop it from messing your shoes.

SWIMS, a Norwegian based company who specialises in “galoashes” – a waterproof overshoe that slips over your shoes, to protect them from the weather, has recently introduced the City Slipper.  The City Slipper is an accompaniments to their existing range of flat rubber overshoe covers and made just for heels.

The City Slipper goes over your heels, and is made from a flexible silicone material, which makes it easy to slip on and off and change between shoes.  The low cut design also accommodates for embellished shoes with bows, or buckles on them.

Now, as if this is not already a freaking fabulous invention, the soles add traction, in the form of a map noggal, with maps of New York, Paris or Tokyo.

Unfortunaltey I have yet to see these in Sunny SA, but if you’re out an about in Europe, Scandinavia or selected Asian countries, make sure you lookout for these.   SWIMS have a list of agents and retailers on their website swims.com and it seems that you could purchase them via their online shop.  Whether this shop caters to our South African currency, is yet to be determined, but if you make a purchase, let us know how it goes.
