StyleScoop Report – Chains for a change

Imagine there was a way you could update your classic winter boots with this seasons’ “hot chains” without compromising on style or budget? We’ll I found it and I’ll tell you all about it in my scoop of the week…

Last winter, after I literally wore my boots to death, I promised myself that I absolutely had to invest in at least one pair of quality winter boots – no compromise! Ideally a pair that would last me a good couple of years without looking dated. I mean, I at least want to get my money’s worth.

While choosing a pair based on cost-per-wear would be the “smart” choice, if you flipped through our Autumn 2010 GLOSSY Magazine (which went live today), you’ll notice that footwear adorned with chains is a season must have. Being a self confessed and slightly obsessed shoe-a-holic didn’t help my case, as I wanted to have the smart and trendy choice.

After parting with my hard earned cash at Aldo, I ended up with the smart choice – a pair of plain, gorgeous, tanned knee-high boots. While boots accessorised with chains looked so right now, I knew that they will look so yesterday quicker than you can say “tired trend”. My tan babies set me back R1900, but hey, I love them and you can’t put a price on that. They will go with everything and I certainly plan to wear them to death. I won’t go into too much detail about the second, also simple pair I just had to have, but let’s just say a very happy girl left Aldo that day.

I went back to Aldo the next day, this time to help a colleague find a pair of boots and spotted these gorgeous chains hanging on the accessories rack. At first I thought they were oddly displayed necklaces or belts, but to my surprise, they were shoe accessories! The salesman showed me how they worked on my boots and straight away, I was sold! I like the fact that I can be very “Winter 2010” today, but when the chain reaction takes a turn for the worst, I can still have my pair of plain and simple smart boots and they wont look “oh my god, did you really wear those?!?!?”

It’s nice to know that with a little creative thinking (and looking in the accessories rack instead of the shoe shelves), I managed to get my way, both ways without compromise. Kudos to Aldo for thinking of such a smart way for us to make our shoes trendy without looking tacky!
