She’s Got All Star Style!

Ok, so since the Converse Get Dirty Party, I’ve been rocking my Converse and trying to find more ways to wear my All Stars!

Now, I think I’m making progress, but for someone who has really nailed the Converse-are-cool-with-everything look, you have to check out Tanya Kovarsky, the blogger behind Rattle And Mum!

Tanya Kovarsky - All Star Style on www.stylescoop.co.za

It was Tanya’s instagram feed that inspired me to go out and get my first pair! She has such amazing All Star style and a super envious collection! After reading this you’ll know just what I’m talking about!

SS: When did you purchase your first pair of Cons?
TK: I got my first Cons when I was 15 – a pair of grass green low tops.

SS: Interesting! I always thought that either black or white low tops were everyone’s “Converse starting point”. I thought I was being a rebel starting with black high tops 🙂 Any idea why you went for green, and more importantly do you still have them?
TK: Unfortunately I don’t have them – I got them when I was in high school. I think I had hoodies in green that I wanted to pair them with, plus they were a gorgeous emerald green colour that I haven’t been able to find since. My first “grownup” pair were pink low-tops, and I still have those.

SS: And the purple high tops are so fab! So, how many Cons are in your collection right now?
TK: 21

SS: Wow, 21! That’s a lot of All Star! Which one is your favourite, favourite pair?
TK:
That is like asking a mother to name her favourite child! 🙂 But if absolutely pressed, I’d say my black Blondie high-tops with neon pink laces, my black sequinned high-tops, and my classic black high-tops. And my red polka-dot high tops. And my silver high-tops. And. And (see – impossible to narrow down).

SS: Haha, I see what you mean! I saw those Blondie high-tops and could kick myself for not getting a pair! Back then, I was a little scared of trying new fashion trends! Tell me, how would you rock your Cons and still look fabulous? Three ways you’d incorporate Converse All Stars into your look?
TK:
Pair skinnies with a pair of low-tops, “dress down” a suit or jeans and jacket with low-tops, or wear high-tops with shorts or mini skirts (with or without stockings or leggings). Dresses also look great with high or low tops.

SS: I Love high tops when worn with cute dresses! I wish I could pull off this look, but I’m a little scared of the “ankle turning to cankle” look! Any tips?
TK: I sadly think that slimmer legs might be a necessity, but I think I’m a bit strict here. I’ve seen some great looks with long skirts and high-tops, which can suit anyone – I would just keep the top part tailored, fitted or neat.

SS: Ok, now for the big one! What advice do you have for people who want to wear Converse, but are affraid of looking too causal or dressed down?
TK:
If you’re afraid of looking “dressed down”, then try “dressing up” the rest of your look. Skinnies or bootlegs and a tailored shirt or jacket will go great with Cons. Accessories such as scarves, jewellery and hats will also smarten up a Cons outfit. Another tip is to avoid overly baggy pants with baggy shirts – at least one tailored element is advised.

SS: Thanks for the tips and great advice Tanya! I see (since I stalk follow you in Instagram) that your little boy is totally growing up in his mother’s footsteps. Literally! How is his Converse collection getting along? Do you think his will out grow yours?
TK: It would be a shame not to bestow on him the Con goodness! Sadly, he’s only wearing his Woolworths rain boots for winter, but I’m sure he’ll cross over to other shoes soon once the novelty wears off. He had three pairs of Cons as baby – navy, black and white (purely for decoration), and when he was a little older, a pair of high-top Dr Seuss, which I was hoping I’d find in an adult size, but no luck.

SS: Those are totally adorable! Totally off topic, but I’m sure many will be asking this question; how old are you and what do you do for a living? Although it would seem as though you work for Converse? 🙂
TK: Eeek – must I say? I’m 37. I’m a copywriter, editor, trainer and blogger
