Some exciting new skincare products to keep an eye on as we head into winter…
Payot Élixir Douceur
Payot recently launched their new serum, Élixir Douceur. The idea behind it is to help soothe, repair and restructure your skin. Working as a “protective shield”, it soothes irritation, repairs the skin and protects it from external aggressions. So, three benefits in one!
I like to think of it as addressing past damage, working on present skin conditions and ensuring the future health of your skin by offering a barrier of protection.
The texture is light and instantly absorbed by the skin, so there is no feeling of oil buildup on your face. I love the applicator; which has a dropper in the lid, allowing you to “press” out each drop as you need it. I like to use it by applying four drops; one on the forehead, chin and cheeks and then working it all into the skin.
It’s great for all skin types and perfect for adding hydration back into the skin as we head into winter.
For the ingredients junkies, here’s a list of ingredients and how each one works:
- Water Lily Extract : Soothes, calms down and restructures.
- Sesame Oil : Restores the cutaneous barrier.
- Borage Oil : Protects and regenerates.
- Sun Floweroil : Nourishes and soothes.
- Rice Bran Oil : Protects from aging and external agression.

Dermalogica Multivitamin Power Serum
A brand new product from Dermalogica that launches next month in May! Multivitamin Power Serum is a microencapsulated vitamin complex that works to target the signs of aging on the entire face. It’s packed with vitamins A, C and E that target fine lines, hyper pigmentation and age spots, while stimulating the formation of collagen to help boost the skins elasticity and damage caused by the sun.
When I was at the Dermalogica launch on Monday, this product was all the rage amongst the therapists as well as the development team behind this product.
The formula is not a gel, but feels more like a balm and has zero oiliness! If your skin is oily then this product will be ideal for you as it creates a nice smooth surface and locks into your skin.
Dermalogica Ultrasmoothing Eye Cream
Another new product from Dermalogica that launches in August this year, is their amazing new eye serum. Ultrasmoothing Eye Serum is described as a complete damage barrier that targets the sensitive, as well as aging skin around the eyes.
A lot of eye creams create too much oil around the eye area leaving the skin prone to dehydration. Dermalogica Ultrasmoothing Eye Serum has five times the hyaluronic acid to help soothe and fight the signs of aging. It also offers relief against the three main triggers of skin sensitivity; immunogenic inflammation, neurogenic inflammation and a compromised lipid barrier.
Here’s a look at the seven ingredients inside;
- Hexapeptide-11 encouragers collagen production
- Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate (MAP) encourages collagen production and helps to fight pigmentation
- Cross-Linked Hyaluronic Acid – helps to fight free radicals
- Brown and Red Algae Extract – helps with inflammation and to reduce eye puffiness
- Golden Chamomile helps to soothe the skin and reduce eye puffiness
- Carrot Root Extract that is a rich antioxidant carotenoids and pro-Vitamin A
- Ultraclaming Complex which is Dermalogica’s ingredient that helps reduce sensitivity, redness and irritation
Because it comes in a gel formula as opposed to a cream or lotion, it stays put without any slip and glide. It’s also perfect if you want to apply your makeup straight away (without waiting for your eye cream to absorb) and what I really like, is that it can be applied over your makeup for a quick pick me up. And your makeup wont budge! I tried it and it works!
This is the ideal product for jet setters and great to keep in your on-board luggage to revive those airport eyes.
The price of Ultrasmoothing Eye Cream is set to retail at R715 for a 15ml bottle
Skin Republic Spots+Blemish Face Mask Sheet
Here’s a great face mask that helps to clear and clean your skin.
Skin Republic SPOTS+BLEMISH Face Mask is packed with Tea Tree, Salicylic Acid and Witch Hazel, all of which help to clean out your pores, control shine and reduce redness on your skin, all without drying it out.
I love these masks that you just take out the packaging and apply over your face without having to rub any cream or lotion on.
Skin Republic SPOTS+BLEMISH mask comes in a single, sealed sachet. When you’re ready to use it, just peel open the packet and lay the mask over your face. The technology of this mask is similar to that of ModelCo’s Facelift, La Mer’s Hydrating Facial Mask and Cettua Girl’s After Night Fever Mask, in that they all come in this brilliant mask sheet style.
The mask sheet contains skin filler ingredients that soak into the skin. We tested and we approve!
On a clean skin, simply unfold the mask and leave it on your face for 15-20 minutes. Then remove the mask and pat the area dry.
The Skin Republic range (formerly known as Skin Logic) is a hypo-allergenic, dermatological skin care range that has been formulated and tested in a laboratory. Their products are focused on nourishing, rejuvenating and cleansing.
You can find this product at Red Square, Edgars and Dis-Chem.
